Scissors: True Grit 4/5

True Grit (15)

Writer Emma Collacott
Canterbury.

"True Grit is the tale of 14 year old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) who hires U.S Marshall, Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to capture her father’s murderer ‘Chainey’. Despite Roosters wishes Mattie joins the search in the Indian territories, along with Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) who wants ‘Chainey’ for his own purposes.
The Cohen brothers have managed to create a western that retains its authenticity and with the use of language and cinematography really brings you into the world of True Grit. Although True Grit can be slow at times, it has been greatly received by the general public, as well as being acknowledged with numerous awards. This is down to the combination of superb acting from Bridges and Steinfeld, together with the Cohen brothers’ direction and stunning use of cinematography. Overall it is an amazing cinematic experience, gripping from start to finish. I give it 4/5"

"A solid film, for a start, well shot, stunning cinematics. A classic film shot in a contemporary way, giving it a fresh outlook. The characters were well rounded, had depth, you could imagine them to be real people. You can't go wrong with Jeff Bridges. Matt Damon was a surprise also." - Sam Whetton, Maidenhead.
